If you’ve ever tried building Qt from source (to build just what you need, not the bloatware that the Qt installer gives you), you’ll have come across the problem of what libs need to be installed on your machine so that Qt will not just build, but actually work, without errors running your app about missing xcb plugins or font directories. So here’s a list from a recent install:
- build-essential
- cmake
- ninja-build
- openssl, libssl-dev
- pkg-config
- mesa-utils, libglu1-mesa-dev
- freeglut3-dev, mesa-common-dev
- libglew-dev, libglfw3-dev, libglm-dev
- libbison-dev
- clang-22
- git, gh
- libx11-dev
- libxcb*-dev
- libx11-xcb-dev
- libxi-dev
- libxkbcommon-dev, libxkbcommon-c11-dev
- libfontconfig1-dev
- libfreetype6-dev
The list may include a couple of things that aren’t really necessary, but it’s best to play of the side of caution as otherwise you face a long wait running configure and build again.
If there’s something missed out, let us know!
