A bug has been reported in that with this version of OSX, a GDS file could not be opened. This has been fixed (some Qt / OSX change caused the error) and the fix is uploaded with the same version (4.4.53) as it's only mac-specific.
So if you get an error saying a file you're trying to load is not a GDS file on the Mac, please download the new build from the website.
